Biography

Rose Louise Schmitz, 99, of La Porte City, died Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the Buchanan County Health Center. , She had been a resident for the last three years at ABCM Rehab Center in Independence. Rose was born February 28, 1918 in Coggon the daughter of Jack and Edna (Schatzle) Barker.  She was a graduate of Coggan High School.

Rose married Leonard Schmitz on May 22, 1940 in Walker; he preceded her in death on December 15, 1998. 

She worked as an Unit Clerk for St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo for many years, retiring in 1983.

Survived by: three sons, Douglas (Chris) of Dubuque, Richard (Gloria) of Armour, South Dakota, David (Debbie) of La Porte City; twelve grandchildren, Kim (Jerry), Kelly (Travis), Bill, Brian, Monique (Louis), Isaac, Shiloh, Breezy (Pete), Jason, Caleb (Adrienne), Zachary (Leah), Mackenzie (Joel) and many great and great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; three grandchildren, twins, Karen and Klara and Nicholas Schmitz; two great granddaughters, Merrilynn and Maggie Schmitz; three sisters, Judy, Millie and Alice and one daughter-in-law, Lois Schmitz.
