Jane Emma Nelson, 76, of Waterloo, died on November 24, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center Waterloo.

She was born August 11, 1944 in Cedar Falls; the daughter of Lawrence and Alice (Rechkemmer) Bingham.

Jane was a 1961 graduate of Waverly High School.

She married Kenneth Nelson on March 3, 1962 at First Baptist Church in Waterloo, he preceded her in death on May 21, 2018.

Jane worked at Schoitz Hospital, Iowa Securities, and for 23 years at Silverstone Group in Omaha, NE as a personal assistant to the President, retiring in 2002. Most recently, she volunteered at Highland Elementary School.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Ray (Dawn) Nelson, of Waterloo; step-son, Allan Kepler, of Keller, TX; step-daughter, Barbara Zirretta, Des Moines, IA; Eight grandchildren; Four great-grandchildren, and a sister, Patricia (Darrell) Young of Shell Rock.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents; two brothers, Michael Bingham and John Bingham; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Kepler.

We are all proud to call Jane “ours.” She was the glue to the family, our inspiration, and provided endless love to all. Jane lived a full life. She was fearless, strong, and devoted. She was often a caregiver and rarely sought anything in return but your presence. She loved being surrounded by her closest family and friends, a good laugh, and wine.  We will all remember her excellent cooking, her ability to make her fresh laundry smell like heaven, and her pride for each one of us no matter the circumstances in life. Jane was a giving woman, most recently volunteering at Highland Elementary. She enjoyed her time with the students and deeply missed time with them this year.

We can all agree, we would not be who and where we are today without her love, and for that, we thank you, Jane.

It is with a heavy heart that we learned of Mrs. Nelson’s passing. We were neighbors for about three years in Laredo, Texas. Mr. & Mrs. Nelson were extremely kind and welcoming when we moved in next door. She would always bring our trash cans back inside…. Trust me, I would try very hard to beat her, but only succeeded a few times! We stayed in touch via annual newsletters (which will be deeply missed).

We send our most sincere condolences to the family. Mr. & Mrs. Nelson will live forever in our hearts.

    Dear Family,

Thinking of you at this time of sadness and sending our most sincere heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. Your parents will live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives. I was your dad's driver in  Laredo, Texas when I worked with Warren. Every morning at 6 am we were off to work sharing bits of knowledge, laughter and friendship. Your mom Jane was always waiting for my arrival at 5:55 with a smile and kind words at the door.At the end of the day she would welcoe both of us with a smile and kind words.  "Those we hold in our hearts never truly leave us."

Jane was a wonderful person I met at Newcomers in Laredo,TX around 2003. She was an enduring friend. We kept in touch throughout the years. She attended my wedding in Michigan. We visited her last winter and were able to meet Kenny Ray for the first time. She also toured us through the beautiful handicapped bathroom she had donated in her husband Ken’s memory at her church in Waterloo. She was a beautiful, delightful and all around special person. Sincere sympathies.

Jane has been a lifetime friend as we were classmates at Finchford School and then Waverly High. She relished hosting the gathering of classmates in recent years and her giving and gracious manner and spirited personality will be missed by all.
