Joann M. McGlaun, age 96, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the Martin Health Care Center at the Western Home in Cedar Falls.

She was born July 13, 1922 in La Crosse, WI, the daughter of Wendell Max and Joan Catherine (Mailer) Moos.  Joann graduated from Onalaska (WI) High School and attended La Crosse Teacher’s College.  She was united in marriage with Leo McGlaun on December 14, 1945 in Duluth, MN.  He preceded her in death on September 25, 2014.

Joann worked for a time as an elementary school teacher and then spent many years working as a substitute teacher.  She was an active, involved member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Cedar Falls, and a member of the Eastern Star.  In earlier years, Joann loved dancing with Leo at the Riviera and Electric Park Ballrooms.  She enjoyed crafting, playing cards, camping and being in the outdoors.  Joann was an excellent cook and she loved to cook for her family.  Her specialty was making holiday cookies and candies.

Joann was the matriarch of the McGlaun Family and that position will remain unfilled.  Her compassion and devotion to those she was closest to will be sorely missed.

Survivors include a daughter, Wendy (Dan) Hedges of Fairbank, IA; two sons, Jon (Gina) McGlaun of Derby, KS and Todd (Laura) McGlaun of McKinney, TX; seven grandchildren, Justin (Kate), Nate, Sam, Max, Matt and Katy McGlaun and Dr. Tami (Mike) Eggleston; and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Leo.

My sincere condolences to the McGlaun family.  Joann was a wonderful person and one of the best neighbor/friends that I and my wife have ever had.  Yes I’ve been fortunate to partake in many of those enjoyable things (camping, fishing, meals, treats, etc.) with Joann and Leo, and yes she will be deeply missed.  Sincerely, Gary Gusland
