Biography

Judith (Judy) Imogene Holbert-Jones, was born March 28, 1942, in Atchison,

KS. to Adrian W. and Ruth E. Andrews-Holbert.

Judy accepted Christ at the age of 10, she was baptized at the Second

Christian Church in Atchison. She attended Lincoln Elementary and

Atchison High Schools and graduated in 1960. She received her

cosmetology license in 1962, from Crescent Beauty School in Des Moines,

IA. It was there, she met her beloved husband of 55 years, Mr. Calvin Jones.

Judy worked as a beautician for many years at various salons in the

Waterloo area: Judy’s Perm Shop, Rainy Mae’s, Roosevelt’s and Frazier’s

Barber and Beauty Shop. She also worked for Operation Threshold,

Waterloo Schools and APAC.

Judy truly loved all aspects of her church family; she was a proud and

devoted member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church since 1970.

Over the years Judy served in many areas of the ministry: the Senior Choir,

director of the choir, the pianist and the Corresponding Secretary for

many years.

Judy loved sewing for her family and friends, she also enjoyed making

wedding dresses for all of the girls in the family/community. She loved her

grandchildren, reading and mystery movies!

Judy leaves to mourn her, her children, Barry Jones (IA), Deidra Greer

(Waterloo), Tamara S. Edmonds (Devin) (PA), Judith Gandy (NY). She also

leaves nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a sister-in-law:

Cynthia Harrington (MI) and two very close friends Marcia Schemmel of

(Sioux City, IA) and Clementine Ross (WY) as well as a host of nieces,

nephews and cousins in the Los Angeles area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her cherished husband Calvin,

Never without that wonderful smile, Judy made you feel like her best friend. God needed one more angel and asked her to come. Judy was ready for her new job because that is how she lived her life, in service to God and family.
