11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel with Military rites conducted by the Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and the Iowa National Guard Honors Detail.

 

Visitation

10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel.

Biography


Lester F. Linderman, 85, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Elk Run Heights, died Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls of natural causes.  He was born April 10, 1933 in Cresco the son of Lanette Linderman.  

He married Alberta Smith on December 2, 1960 in Waterloo; she preceded him in death on December 18, 1998.  He married Edith Marticoff on July 17, 2007 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Lester worked for Clay Equipment in Cedar Falls and retired from Waterloo East High School, where he had been a custodian for many years.

Survived by: his wife, Edith of Cedar Falls; two sons, Scott (Rhonda) Linderman of Independence, Tim Linderman of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Crystal (Tim) Funk of Waterloo; two stepsons, Dean (Susan) Deterding of Georgia, and Dan (Amy) Deterding of Fredericksburg; two stepdaughters, Luella (Kort) Guild of Denver, Lisa (Shawn Hesse) Deterding of Des Moines; one stepdaughter-in-law, Julie Deterding of Sheboygan, WI; four grandchildren, Shana, Eric, Stephany and Scottie; two great grandchildren, Thorn and Haylee and one more on the way and ten step-grandchildren, Rachael, Victoria, Jamie, Emily, Ted, Diana, Michael, Katrina, Jordan and Baylee.

Preceded in death: by his parents; his first wife, Alberta; one son, Jeffrey Linderman; one stepson, Dale Deterding; one brother, Bud Linderman and one sister, Helen Timmerman.

Lester enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bowling, going out to eat and especially going to Casey’s General Store in Evansdale every morning for coffee and donuts. He will be greatly missed.

    i never thought of him as a step gradfather.

    to me he was my grandpa no matter what.
