Biography

Cedar Falls - Lucas David Knebel, 33, of Cedar Falls passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from a sudden illness. He was born on December 15th, 1987 in Waterloo, son of Dave and Patti Knebel. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 2006, and later from Iowa State University in 2011 with a Liberal Arts Degree and a minor in Philosophy. Since 2013, Luke has served as a valuable member of the Credit Union Support Team as a Service Administration Specialist at Cuna Mutual Group in Waverly.

Luke was always seeking a deeper understanding of life through discourse and literature. He had an appreciation for music and the arts and enjoyed playing guitar, reading, and writing, being outdoors, and spending time with close friends. Luke liked playing video games and board games alike and would hardly ever miss out on an opportunity to play with friends. He loved his dog, Raylee, who he adopted from the Cedar Bend Humane Society. Luke will forever be remembered for his trustworthiness, constant pursuit of knowledge, and for his unwavering loyalty to his family and friends.

Luke is survived by his parents, Dave and Patti Knebel of Cedar Falls, his sister Kelsy Knebel (Brandon Ross) of Waterloo, his nephew Christopher Ross, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Melvin and Patricia Knebel, and by his maternal grandparents, Earl and Loretta Wieters.

“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor worry about the future, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.” - Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai

Our world stopped when we found out about Luke leaving us.  Condolences to all in your family and friends.  We watched Luke grow up into a fine young man always helpful with a smile and his quick wit to make the day brighter.  His guitar playing I especially enjoyed, never heard enough of it. We continue to stand in the wings with continued support and friendship.  Mary lou, Janice and Solo

    Dave Patti and family,
Don and I were so sad to hear the news of your son Lucas’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Here is a poem I found: Love knows no boundaries even those that divide Heaven and Earth. So whenever you feel sad, just remember your hearts are connected together.  May God keep you and help you through these difficult times.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I too had the pleasure of working with Lucas at CUNA Mutual. What a wonderful young man. I have 4 sons & 2 step sons all close to Lucas's age and I felt like Lucas was another of them. We often teased him that he now had several Mom's :) He was smart, funny, kind, witty and so over my head with his jokes - lol. He will forever have a piece of my heart. RIP dear Lucas, you will be missed by so many.

I worked with Lucas at CUNA Mutual and whenever we had conversation, either about work or not, I could tell we had the same sense of humor and similar curiosity about life. He had about him a light heartedness intellect that I will always cherish from knowing him. My sincere condolences to his family and friends who had the priviledge of knowing the unique gem he was.

Luke was the first CUNA employee to reach out and engage with me when I started working there.  He always took the time to chat and his concern for others was sincere.  We developed a friendship and spent time together outside of work.  I will miss him but I'm glad to have known him.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Lucas.  I was one of his co-workers at CUNA Mutual.  He will always be remembered for his great smile, sense of humor, kindness and willing to be a friend to anyone he met.  There was never a dull moment if Lucas was in the room as he could always make us laugh.  He will be missed by all who knew him and our team won't be the same.  Heaven got a great guy.

I had the privilege of working with Lucas for five years, and I got to be his team leader a couple of different times.  He was such an important part of the team. I will remember his dry humor and wit and he was always quick to help lighten the mood.  I count myself among the lucky ones that got to call him my friend. My deepest sympathies. Rest, my friend.

im so sorry to hear about Lucas’ passing.  When i worked at CUNA Mutual, he was such a bright light -always a big smile on his face.  We even had a Wednesday lunch “ritual.”  On pizza day, if we saw each other in the cafeteria, we “celebrated” with a loud “it’s pizza day!” and a high five.  He will be missed.  You have my sympathies.

I’m so sorry to hear about Lucas passing.  My sincere sympathies to you and your families.  I worked with Lucas prior to my retirement.  He was a friend and my ‘lunch buddy!’  Several of us ‘older’ ladies that worked with Lucas took him under our wings - he was like a ‘son’  to us!  Surprisingly, he seemed to enjoy ‘hanging’ out with us for drinks and fellowship once a month until Covid ended that.  We always told him we wanted to meet his Mom!  Lucas had the biggest smile, was always friendly, courteous and respectful.  Be proud of the young man you raised!  He will be greatly missed.  RIP Lucas! 🙏

I previously worked at CUNA Mutual Group & though I didn’t work directly with Lucas I never saw him without receiving a sweet smile & a friendly greeting from him. My sincere condolences to his family, friends & coworkers.
