Biography

Mary Lou Frizell was born on April 08, 1941 in Waterloo, Iowa.  She was the daughter of James C. Sr. and Narvel (Weems) Montgomery.  Mary Lou departed this earthly life on Friday - August 06, 2021 at Unity Point Health-Allen Hospital of natural causes.  She married Richard Frizell on December 24, 1964; they were later divorced.

Mary Lou was a graduate of Waterloo East High School.  To further her educational goals, she attended Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa.  Mary worked for Chamberlain Manufacturing; John Deere for twenty-eight (28) years - retiring on December 31, 2001.  She later worked as a Para educator for the Waterloo Community School District.

Mary Lou was known to be the matriarch of her family.  Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.  She was a great homemaker and cook.  Her specialty was “southern-style” meals and desserts.  She was also known by many people in our community as a fashion icon.  She loved wearing beautiful and colorful clothing and hats that often coordinated with her shoes and stylish purses. Her hobbies included outside gardening during the summer and playing the lottery.  She also enjoyed visiting and talking on the phone with family and friends.

Mary Lou accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized into the family of God at an early age.  She was a member of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, Waterloo, Iowa - Reverend Troy Starks (Sr. Pastor).

Mary leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Angela (Darnell) Jones of Waterloo; and two sons: Marvin (Elizabeth) Frizell of Dallas, TX and Eddie (Genet) Frizell of Loretto, MN; ten (10) grandchildren; and three (3) sisters: Bonnie (Ira) Frizell, Eva Culp, and Lorraine (Otis) Gaston – all of Waterloo, IA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Connie Broady; a sister, Narvel Partee; and seven (7) brothers: Robert, James Jr., Alfred, Willie, Curtis, Ennis and Glen.

Thinking of you all during this difficult time. Mary Lou will truly be missed. Revelation 21:4 - He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

    God bless you all.

Aunt Mary Lou was always one of my favorite Aunts. Funny, but very smart. She always felt it was necessary to give me advice - whether I asked for it or not. Like all of the other Montgomery siblings, she had a tremendous work ethic and was well respected. When she had the microphone,  no telling what you woukd get but she had a good heart. She has akways been a part of my life and I will miss her.

I am so blessed to meet Aunt Mary Lou.  She was a beautiful woman with many shoes.  I can remember when Uncle R L invited my  sisyer Cordelia and I down for a short visit.  She was a gorgeous woman who deserved respect . in our conversatiom through the years, we were focused on family. achievements, and the statis and well being of others.  Rest peacefully Aunt Mary Lou.  You taught me how to be forgiving, engaging, and loving.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Mary Lou.  We have many fond memories of Mary's loving and outstanding personality.  We get a sense of comfort from the Scripture at John 11:25 where Jesus said to Martha the brother of Lazarus, " Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life;".

I met Ms. Mary on two occasions. Even from a distance, it wasn't hard to observe her care, concern, love and firm affection for her children and grandchildren. Sending love and care to all the Waterloo kin from Kansas City. God is still in the blessing business.
