Biography

Patricia Kline, 85, of La Porte City, died Monday, February 18, 2019 at La Porte City Specialty Care following an extended illness.

Pat was born on June 27, 1933 in Birmingham, Alabama, the oldest daughter of John and Rachel (Durham) Mobley. She married David Kline - the love of her life - on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1959 in Louisville, Kentucky. He preceded her in death in 2008.

Pat was raised in Louisville and graduated from the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She believed that the most important job in her life was as a wife and mother, a role in which she excelled. Pat loved playing cards and was a member of several card clubs in La Porte City. She treasured spending time with her family and hosted many family gatherings over the years.

Pat is survived by four children, Diana Kline of Kansas City, Missouri, Carolyn (Joseph) Martin of Bettendorf, Iowa, Katherine (Brian) Schmitz of Waterloo, Iowa, and David (Stefanie) Kline of La Porte City, Iowa; five grandchildren, Anne and Samuel Martin and Rachel, Audrey, and Andrew Kline.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David, and her only sister, Dorothy Mobley, with whom she was very close.

The family would like to thank the staff at La Porte City Specialty Care for their attention and care to Pat during her time there. Their kindness was deeply appreciated.

My mom, Gladys Peters, was a resident at the Lodge and long-ago-card-friend of Pat's. When I visited the Lodge I was impressed by how open and freely Pat expressed her love and admiration toward others around her. Sweet.

My husband, Bob, and I send our condolences to Pat's friends and family. Pat was a lovely, gracious presence who always made us out-of-towners feel welcome and loved. Family was everything to her and her beautiful home reflected the care and creativity with which she approached her life. She will be missed by all who knew her.

So sorry to hear about your Mom.  Never easy to  say goodbye to a loved one, especially a parent.      She was such a “Southern Belle” and loved her

Kentucky Derbys!!  Gods blessings to your family.
