Biography

Verdale V. Marquardt, Sr., 79, of Evansdale, died on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home after a ten-year battle with two forms of cancer.

Verdale was born on August 22, 1941 in Caledonia, Minnesota, son of Victor and Ethel (Paris) Marquardt.

He served in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge.

Verdale married Berniece E. Burns on October 29, 1961 at Grace Methodist Church in Waterloo.

Verdale had previously worked at the Broom Factory, Waterloo Industries, Rath Packing Company and retired from John Deere in 2004 after 38 years.

Verdale was a member of the UAW Local 838. He had been on a dart league and also enjoyed camping, fishing and woodworking in his free time. He was known to be a perfectionist; it was not uncommon to completely start over on a project if it was not just right. Verdale was also a prankster, making many special memories with his family.

Survived by his wife, Berniece Marquardt of Evansdale; daughter, Denise (Mike) Woods of Evansdale; son, Verdale (Tammy) Marquardt Jr. of Quincy, Illinois; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special nephew, Ben (Kelly) Reeves of Altoona; and four siblings, Verlyn (Regina) Marquardt, Marilyn (Norman) Schmitt, Marlys Dolph, and Morris (Linda) Dolph all of Waterloo

Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Stanley Marquardt.

Verdale’s family would like to thank the Mayo Clinic, especially Jessica Mitchell, and Cedar Valley Hospice, especially Amanda & Lisa for their exceptional care.
